Q: What is the difference between an R1 and R2 Mazda Rx7?
Ok here's for all you Rotary and rx7 enthusiasts. I'm looking for an Mazda Rx7 and I was just wondering how can you ensure a car is an R1 or R2. I understand that R1's are suppose to be faster, but what are the clear differences in them. Cloth seats and wing, I know those are but people usually do conversions to pass them off as an R1..so how can you make sure its worth that little bit of extra money. also is the rear wiper model specific?

A: Well I never heard about R1's and R2 models. What year RX-7 are you looking at?

Q: how much does a Mazda rx7 FD and Mazda Rx7 FC cost ?
im planning on buy a Mazda rx7 FD or FC if its no that expensive.i`m not sure how much it costs.

A: Before you even think of buying an FD or FC, do some research. I know of a lot of people who have no clue on what their getting into when purchasing one of these vehicles. Cost will vary and remember to keep up the maintenance, cause if you treat this car like shit it will do the same to you. I own a FD, and let me tell you its a pretty big commitment when it comes to an RX7 and try to have a back up car just in case if something goes wrong with rx7. SO just do some research, go to sites like www.rx7club.com, but to answer your question, FC's will go no higher then 10K unless its really modified and condition their in. FD's will cost you more than 10K unless the cars condition plays a factor in the price but you never know you may get lucky and find one pretty cheap.

Q: Is it good to buy a Mazda RX7. If it is, can you tell me the problems I might have with it?
I am only 15 and I really want to buy a Mazda RX7 but my dad thinks that "Mazda" does not make good cars

A: Unlike what many people think they know, the Rotary engine is a great motor and can last a very long time...in the hands of a KNOWLEDGEABLE owner. Regrettably, this doesn't include most teenagers who want nothing but power. The motor can produce tons of HP, but at the cost of reliability. Since you're looking at your first car an RX7 could be a good choice, but only the non-turbo FB or FC models. Properly maintained these could last you for years. If you choose a turbo FC or FD model you will very likely be popping motors all over the place. And as a novice driver the turbo models will be FAR more car then you could handle. You may not have time to pop an engine...you'll wrap the car around a tree first. If you do buy an RX7 do make the assumption that the motor will need replacing, and budget accordingly. Unless you know the history of the car and it's previous owner you have no way of knowing if the motor was properly maintained. And lastly, learn more about rotary engines and their proper care. Q: How much is a 87 Mazda RX7 worth? It belongs to my sister. ?
She doesn't think it's worth anything. Been in the garage the last 15 years and not driven. Would there be a problem with the motor if it sits that long? It has a new paint job. I think even a new motor would make it a good vehicle. I need to let her know it's worth selling. She's having financial problems and needs top dollar. Is it worth fixing up with a new motor? Not sure about mileage, but it still looks new. I need a dollar amount, not just 'alot' or 'not much'. I don't think Kelly book goes that far back. I tried once. I went to KBB and it goes back to 1989. What would a collector pay?

A: NADA is just like KBB, but they have a classic cars section for that 87 RX-7. It sounds like it costs at least $10,000 since it is in like new condition. Ones in bad condition with high mileage usually go for $3000. The Engine is a rotary engine, which are supoosed to be driven every day and not sitting. Most probably, the engine will have problems starting. Before trying to start, I would replace sparkplugs, distributor cap , get an oil change and replace oil filter and battery.

Q: any one know the wire color codes for a mazda Rx7 convertible(1990) in particular the audio system?
need to find something or someone who can tell, show or send me something that tells what each of the colors represents as far as where they go(you know,a color schematic) so I can decipher this rats nest of wires and get this baby running and playing proper.

A: Yep the man with the answer is MAZDA DEALER

Q: How much do you think my 1992 Mazda Rx7 is worth?
It's done 60k is twin turbo, a jap import, black, fuel flap is broken (but mendable) ok condition for age, has tax & few months MOT.

A: probably about 2 grand at most being realistic

Q: How much does a 1988 mazda rx7 cost on the streets, 2nd gen?
I have on and i want to sell it, it is in good conditions, but it has over 120,000 miles on it, it turns on good, and runs well, of course it is a rotary engine, what is the average price, and is ebay the best place to sell it?

A: With ebay, cars, especially sports cars, are irresistible bait for scammers. Sure a lot of people successfully sell cars on ebay, but you're going to have that problem to deal with. Specify in big, bold letters "LOCAL PICKUP ONLY, BUYER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SHIPPING." You'll limit your legit bidders to two types of people: those who are prepared to handle transporting the car, and those who can't fucking read. Anyhow, how much the car is worth depends on a lot. There are no good guides that will tell you how much you can get for this car. When a car has a cult around it, all price guides fail utterly. The guy with the friend who couldn't sell one for 1500 may not be telling the whole story, but likely that's partly due to where he was trying to sell it. Demand for sports cars varies wildly by location. (Try finding a Miata in the southwest, for example) It also varies more by condition than a normal car would. If it looks flawless, and runs as perfectly as it ever did, you can probably ask in the mid-high 4 figures for it. If it's a rust bucket that only runs "well" if you're both ignorant and optimistic, you'd be to get mid-high 3 figures for it. If you live in or near a major city, Craigslist is probably the best place to sell it.

Q: Which car should I get the Mazda Rx7 or the Nissan 300zx?
I wouldn't mind some other suggestions on cars.

A: 1990 to 1996 300ZX or RX-7 1993 to 1995 do you realise how hard it is to repair old sports cars? I performed many engine replacements on twin turbo rx-7 cars under warranty and it was expensive. Out of warranty $8,000 every time you detonate a Apex seal. I have worked for both Mazda and now Nissan Old Z-32's are getting where they need all kinds of repair before they are safe at high speed too. Sports cars are expensive to insure. RX-7 may get 10 miles a gallon around town and only 17 highway Old Z-32 300zx not all that much better the non turbo can get 21 highway. And about 15 in town. I don't know how old you are or the extent of your mechanical abilitys. Think a much newer car especially if your going for higher education. A small Nissan Versa Or Mazda 3 might be a better choice because it is in warranty.

Q: well i was looking at drifting cars and people suggested a mazda rx7 i found a 1990 but its a convertible?
is this a good car to have for drifting?

A: a convertible is a poor choice because not having a roof makes the car flex and bend more than a regular car.

Q: What should I look for when purchasing a 1991 Mazda RX7?
It has a rebuilt engine but im not too sure of what else to look out for. Apparently they are expensive to fix so im just wondering what problems to look for before I buy it. Thanks in advance

A: That's your first clue; a rebuilt engine. Why was it rebuilt? To add performance? Or because it was in such bad condition that it HAD to be rebuilt? Look for chassis rust; to do this you must hire a mechanic to check the bottom of the car for you. Looks for performance modifications; these modifications usually have a vestigial of a racing driver. If the car was used in racing, which is quite popular among RX7 owners, you should be prudent of its tires, paint, and the engine. Look for interior destruction; if the carpet, glove box, etc. doesn't look/ work like it's supposed to, it tells a story of how the previous owner treated the car in general. You should also carfax the car, or, make sure it hasn't been in any accidents, salvaged, flooded, etc.

Q: why do a lot of people like the Mazda Rx7?
why do a lot of people like the azda rx7? is it becasue of the acceleration the good turning ability? or because you can pack a lot of power under the hood? what is it?

A: well the rotary engines rev way higher than your normal ic engines plus the weight of the rx7 is lower than most honda's and most domestics. not to mention they are great for drifting. hope this helps.

Q: Can I change my 1979 Mazda Rx7's engine to a 13b rotary? and how much will in cost?
I have a 1987 Rx7.. some of my friends call it the rx7 fb.. I have problems with my current engine it's also a rotary but its not powerful and it produces lots of white smoke. I guess there is something wrong with the engine cause it bruning engine oil! I was wondering could I change it to a 13b which is more powerful and can it fit in the fb... and how much will it cost for a 13b engine? and the price to get it all fix..

A: The 13B from the 86-on cars does not fit in the 79-85 cars unless you are prepared to make MAJOR modifications tot he subframe and body. You need the 13B carb engine from a 71-75 model (RX-3 if I recall) which are going to be very hard to find in good running order these days. The other option is the 13B out of a 84-85 GSL-SE model which is fuel injected. Of course you will need the entire harness with it. While you are at it you could take the front suspension and rear axle which has the advantage of better brakes and a limited slip differential.

Q: How long does it take a Mazda RX7 to go from 0-60?
A 1994. And what is the curn weight i meant curb weight

A: 0to 60 is about 5.5 seconds The other I don't have an answer for.

Q: my mazda rx7 1988 blue smoke when I start the car?
when i let my car sit for a day or over night when i start it blue smoke comes out of exhast and a lil from engie but it burns off after about a minute? what does this mean? i have a leak? i checked my oil and its full

A: To Canfield and Dodge Man, the RX7 comes with a Wankel Rotary engine which does not have pistons or valves, so those won't be the problems. It could be one of these two issues: 1) Your oil metering pump may be stuck and injecting too much oil into the combustion chambers. A small amount is supposed to be injected and does get burnt up during driving but too much might leave some excess after shutdown causing your blue smoke at startup. 2) The rotors have side seals which are meant to keep the regular lubricating oil from entering the combustion chambers, pretty much like a piston ring on a regular engine. If one is worn you will get oil seepage and your blue smoke. If it's only happening at startup I wouldn't worry too much yet, not until you start getting more smoke. If it's a side seal repair requires an engine rebuild. I would, though, take the car to a dealer or rotary engine specialist to have the oil metering pump checked out to eliminate this as the cause. If the OMP should die you will lose the motor.
