Q: Is it true that for a Mazda Miata the only tires I can get are performance tires?
My husband just spent $800 in tires. He said that they are that expensive because they are performance tires. These tires will only last a year or less than that before needing replacement. So I am wondering if there is no other kind of tires he could had gotten that maybe are the same price but lasted longer?? It's for a 2000 Mazda Miata
A: This is a vanity issue more then what the car has to have!
I always buy speed rated tires for my Miata cars (1990 models). I know this is a vanity issue for me, because I have no real need for 140 MPH tires, when the speed limit any place I go is never over 75 and most roads I drive are 55 or less.
Some drivers believe that the reason they can not go through a turn as fast as another is because they need better tires. Which most times is not the case.
I might suggest that you drop the subject, or get him into a safe place to learn what the car can do (like Solo II competitions that SSCA sponsors).
Q: can you change a 95 mazda miata front end to a 99's and above?
i want to get a mazda miata but im on a budget and i dont like the older models front end. will the hood, fenders and bumper of a 99 fit into it????????? is it hard? do you have to do a major job just to swap it?
A: you can swap all the things but the money is the problem right there, not mentioning the price for paint the new parts
a good shop can do it easy but get your pockets ready
Q: what engine oil grade is correct for 1990 mazda miata mx5?
I'm just wondering about this...
when i got my first engine oil changed at the mazda original dealer, the technician changed my oil to 5w-20 engine oil grade. i know it won't harm my engine, but is 5w-20 a good engine oil? it is because my oem mazda miata owners manual says it recommends 5w-30 grade engine oil. is that ok?? once again im just wondering and curious
any good feedbacks are welcome
thanks in advanced
A: 5W20 oil is fine in colder weather. It is thinner than 5W30 and will flow quicker. It may even increase your fuel mileage a bit.
Switch back to 5W30 when the weather turns warmer.
Q: How can u make a mazda miata safer ?
I want to buy a 90s mazda miata for my first car but i was wondering if theres anyway to make it safer since its a small car. sorry about my spelling
A: 1990's MIatas are nice little cars, but they don't have the crashworthiness of today's Miata. There really isn't too much you can do about it. Maybe save your moeny and get a newer one that has better reinforcing in the chassis.
Q: What octane gasoline should i use in my 1992 Mazda Miata that has a super charger?
Is there any advantage to using a higher octane fuel in a Supercharged Miata.
A: If you don't hear knocking (pinging or grinding combustion) from the engine when you tromp on the accelerator you can just use regular gas. If you do hear those noises then you need to move up to a higher octane (slower burning) fuel.
Q: how do you remove a starter for a 92 mazda miata..?
I need to know the best way to take a starter out of a mazda miata...It looks real tight there..I figured I would ask befor i start the project
A: It is tight. I have been having problems with my 90.
There are some things attached to the starter bolts (like the clutch line) that are a bear to get back on. I don't have my book out to know for sure, but at least one bolt has a nut on the back.
It takes a 14mm wrench/socket if my memory is right.
Next time I work on it I am thinking about taking the intake out too let be have more room to work on it.
Try the Autozone site, I think the manual is on line to tell you all you need to know.
Q: Would a guy look gay in a Mazda Miata?
Would a guy like say 17 yrs old look gay in a Mazda Miata?
Im asking cuz I want an answer not a smart aleck comment ididntdoit99,... I already have a 1991 MR2 Im Working on in the garage, and Im getting an RX7 2morrow
A: Well, I sell them and to tell you the truth I absolutely love them but I drove one the other night to a 7/11 and two girls walked out and laughed at me.
A manual transmission model is flat out fun to drive though.
You decide for yourself!
Q: How do I find speakers for my 99 Mazda Miata?
I am looking for some non-stock speakers for my Miata. But I do not know if I should look for them by size or what. How does it work, what do I need to know when looking for speakers and where are some good sites with speakers?
Subs too.
Can I just throw a sub behind a seat or do I need a place for it in the car, I know nothing. Please help!
A: Unfortunately you bought a sports car that has very limited space to work with. What a lot of people have done is to purchase an Amp and a better set of speakers. The amp can boost the power and the better quality speakers will bring it more to life. A sub in a Miata is tough. Depending on what year you have of course. Some people have tried a small 8" sub in the passenger foot well. It takes up too much space in my opinion. Other have squeezed a 8-10" enclosed woofer in the trunk. I'd try the Amp and a good quality set of speakers first (same size as stock and keep them in the door). Or a more powerful deck.
Stop by your local Best Buy and there should be a computer that will get you the correct size by inputting your cars make and year model. I want to say they are 6 1/2" speakers. Listen to the size you like and choose by your taste, not by what the guy recommends. Your ear and his ear are not the same. Be sure to have them show you the Amp's and what they do to improve the speakers.
90-93 have the ECU in the passenger foot well which robs space.
the 94-97 have the ECU stashed behind the passenger seat.
Q: What car wax is recommended for a new Mazda Miata?
Please tell me the best product(s) to use both outside and inside my new ride.
The Miata owner's manual says to wax it immediately and to maintain the finish periodically with wax. It doesn't say what is best to use; it doesn't say what to avoid.
As for the interior of the car and the vinyl top, the manual does say to use a water-based dressing. What's best to use, and what's a must to avoid?
Any other advice would be welcome.
Car-love is grand, ain't it?!
A: i know turtle wax brand is really good...but anything will work as long is not the cheapest brand u ll get..
Q: On a decently maintained Mazda Miata ('99-'00), what can I expect around 80-100K miles?
I'm interested in picking up a cheap Mazda Miata (around $5-6 thousand) for an autocross car. I've been looking around on autotrader and looks like at that price I can expect anywhere from 80K to 120K miles.
How are the maintenance on these cars? Also, how long do the transmission, drivetrain, and engine normally last with good maintenance.
Also, what should I look for in buying a used one? Owners, enthusiasts, and mechanics! Let me know!
A: First off, what are your autocross plans? Do you want to run C-stock? C-stock prepared? SM2? Next, I would think of the effects of AutoX on the vehicle and maintenance costs. There are varying differences on Miata Year Models. the 89-93 yr has the 1.6l, the 94-97 has the 1.8l, there was no 98 model in the US, the 99 has the 1.8l with a better flowing head and a "VICS" butterfly valve. Although the earlier models had a smaller 1.6l engine...they were also a few hundred pounds lighter. In a straight line the 99 will beat the (example) 92 1.6l by about 1 second in a quarter mile if you make this a 1/4 mile slalom, the 1.6l would probably prevail.
If you want something strictly for autox, I would shop for a 90-92. 75% of the time these cars have had extensive suspension work already performed on the vehicle which will save you money. You could then invest the savings into tires/forced induction/whatever. In an autox the difference between a stock 92 with a 1.6l engine and a stock 99 1.8l engine is very negligible due to the lightweight of the car. Parts for Miatas are readily available, this is the best selling sports car ever.
Q: Is it true that a Mazda Miata is faster than a 200 HP V6 Firebird or the other way around?
Other than the 06 Miata Sport Package being a lightweight, HOW is it faster then an 01 Firebird with 200 HP. Firebirds are quick too. Please answer with logic.
A: Yes, Miata is faster.
It weighs half the weight of the Firebird and has around 177HP.
0-60mph in 6.5 seconds compared to 7.5 seconds for the Firebird.
The Miata is also more aerodynamic so it would have a hogher top speed.
200HP is very weak for a V6.
Japanese V6 engines make around 300HP.
And many 4 cylinder cars from Japan and Europe make 200HP.
