Q: Is there a way of locking the rear steering mechanism of the 88 Honda Prelude Si ?
Going back to my Honda Prelude Si. Is there a way of locking the rear steering mechanism without disrupting the alignment or performance of the vehicle. History is...the car was once RHD and because in Manila, we're LHD so it went through a conversion process. Since the rear steering mechanism is still on the right and I'm still using the original rack and pinion and steering on "robotics", the steering is a bit heavy (like when your power steering gives way). I'm awaiting for the LHD rack and pinion assembly to arrive but what do I do about the rear end steering? I don't mind locking it out. Do I have to change the rear end too? I welcome your feedback. Thanks so much!

A: honda had a special tool to lock the rear steering during the camber adjustment of a 4 wheel alignment. the tool was a pin that was inserted into the gear after the gear cap was removeId. The tool is called the "Rear Steering Center Lock Pin and the special tool number that honda used in the U.S. is 07HAJ-SF1020A. I'm willing to bet you won't be able to find that tool, but it does give hope that you can remove the steering gear cap and put a pin in the gear to lock it. Having not had one on an alignment rack I can't tell you what cap to remove or where to put a pin but I was something that had to be done to set the camber without the wheels moving. I guess that if you can find out where the pin goes you can fabricate a pin to work. The steering gear cap needs to be fairly convenient and accessible. You might want to ask around Manila at alignment shops or honda dealers if they can tell you or ask the honda dealer if they have a service manual that goes back that far. hope that helps

Q: Whats the name of the part thats under the signal light of a honda prelude?

A: fist I need to know what year it is. then. is it missing it from the other side too? if not what does it look like. -------------------------------------------

Q: is honda prelude okay as a first car for 17/18 year old?
im planning to get a car soon...looking at 98-01 models from honda prelude. is it reliable? how much will it cost to insure the car? is it easy to learn to drive a stick w/ a prelude?

A: To that guy who answered above me : What does FWD have to do with anything about learning how to drive stick???? If anything it's harder to launch with a FWD.... so I don't know where you're going with that... And to answer your question : Yes. Any car that is above 1997 should be f*cking good for a first car if your parents are buying it for you. Be happy man. Also insurance will depend. Are your parents willing to let you add your car onto their insurance plan? If so, it will be cheap. And learning to drive a manual transmission vehicle is easy in general... However let me warn you : In a FWD, you will think you're going faster than you are because your head is going to jerk back (since the front wheels are pulling). If you look at your speedo you won't be going as fast as you think... so : 1. Don't rev at other cars. 2. Don't race. That's stupid. I won't even go into that. 3. Don't try to peel out. Your car isn't meant for that and you're gonna smell a lot of crap coming out of your engine. Anyways any first car is a good car. Especially if it's free.

Q: How long does a Honda Prelude last?
Typically speaking with regular maintenance and check ups along with oil changes how long could a 1993 Honda Prelude last. My get me a used one with 213,000 miles on the body but only 60,000 on the engine. Any info would be nice. thx

A: Yeah it depends on how you take care of the car my brother prelude is still running strong and it has 388,xxx miles on it.

Q: Does anybody knows how to paint headlamp housing of a Honda prelude black?
hey I just need to know how to paint the headlight housing of a '98 Honda prelude black.

A: you have to take the lens off. Usually if you open the hood the bolts will be there. same as if you were changing a bulb. then go to an auto store grab the industrial size of auto paint make sure it coincides with a 1998 Honda Prelude. Tape off the metal bulbs and anything else you dont want painted with painters tape than spray it. Make sure you let it dry or your bulbs will make the paint run.

Q: What makes a Honda Prelude desirable?
I own a 5th generation, 1997 Honda Prelude. Every guy I know wants to steal the car. But I know very little about cars, and I'm wondering what's so special about it. How does it compare to other cars?

A: alot of people like that car because it contains the H22a engine which was a very strong engine and still is. They are also very customizable and they also look really nice. There a nice coupe for the price

Q: I need to know if these parts will work on my Honda Prelude?
I have a 1992 Honda Prelude and recently bought a header and muffler off of Ebay, then I found out it works with a 1992 Honda Prelude Si, will these expensive parts work with my Prelude?

A: the 1992 prelude systems are all same for all models from 1992 to 1996. the muffler may need to be professionally installed because the diamater of he inlet will be different that the oe pipe. oe is 2".

Q: Is a honda prelude a good starter car?
I am looking to buy a honda prelude, stick as my first car and wondering if its a good car or if you guys have any ideas of a good starter car that is fun.

Q: What exhaust system do I need? Honda Accord or Honda Prelude?
I have a 1993 Honda Accord LX Sedan, with a JDM H22 swap from a Honda Prelude. Do I need to get the Accord exhaust system or will a Prelude exhaust system fit on the Accord's muffler position? Thanks.

A: Go with the accord exhaust.

Q: Advice on power steering fluid for my Honda Prelude?
Hi, there--My beloved 1989 Honda Prelude is losing power steering fluid. I've used replacement fluid from AutoZone made especially for Hondas--but I think I'm still leaking. Here's what I'm wondering: Some other products on the shelf claimed to be able to help seal leaks, and that they were good for all cars, import and domestic. I was tempted to get one of these, but someone once told me not to use any fluid not specifically designed for Hondas. What I'm wondering is: Any Honda owners have luck with a particular kind of steering fluid with a sealant? I'd like to try to stop my leak, but I don't want to use stuff that's bad for my car. And I don't think I can afford a major repair. Anything over 250 bucks and it's time to save for a down payment on something new! Thanks a lot, Honda people!

A: Your friends steered you right!! If it isn't designated HONDA, it isn't wise to use it except in the event it isn't available, and you MUST drive the car. There isn't many "stop-leak" products that will stop the leak, unless you know for sure that it is a seal. Most power steering leaks are from failed hoses and their connections, and the stop leak won't help there. It is time to pony up and bite the bullet; repair the leak. It will be cheaper in the long run, and your little car will be much more dependable. Good Luck

Q: My 93 Honda Prelude is not idling, it keep jumping from 3000 rpm to about 1000 rpm up and down, all the times?
93 honda prelude, 150K miles, manual transmission, keeps jumping from 1000s RPM to 3000s RPM up and down all the times, even when engine is already warm. When driving is normal, but when I put the gear to 0. it start jumping… please help, I need car for my jobs,,, I cant afford to bring to the shop…

A: It could be a number of things. I would start out by bleeding your coolant system. If that doesn't work, you should clean your IACV (Intake air control valve), which controls your idle. After time they can become clogged and make your idle do some really screwy stuff. Here is an article to get you started: http://www.digmyhonda.com/h/story.php?title=DIY_cleaning_your_IACV

Q: What performance parts will make my Honda Prelude go faster?
I own a black 2004 Honda Prelude I love to street race but i need my car to go faster what are some easy parts to find that will help me I dont want NOS also what will make it handel better ( Smoother and tighter )? thanks

A: first of all Honda stopped making Preludes everywhere in 2001. I have a 95 VTEC using the same H22A engine and there are 3 ways to go about it. The engine has close to 11:1 compression to start out with so option one is the high-revving, 200-250whp, Naturally Aspirated monster (High Comp Pistons, ported and blue-printed, headers, exhaust, intake...). Option B is a supercharger. Jackson Racing has a kit that develops around 300hp. Thirdly there's the turbo kit with the front mount intercooler. 8.5 to 9.0:1 pistons would be close to ideal because you can shove more air into the engine thus making more power. Depending on the size of the turbo 400-450hp is not unrealistic. Bilstein and KYB go great with Eibach Springs for having your car handle like it's on rails. for the smoothness you might want to look at adjustable dampers from Tein. they're about $1,000 but you're car will handle just as nice as the shocks and springs, and you can also adjust the ride height and damping force of the set from inside the car. Hope that helps a little bit.
