Q: How come the Honda Insight did not sell well?
Even though it was a hybrid and got 60-70 mpg on the highway? With gas prices so high, you'd think demand would be higher, and it wouldn't have been discontinued.

A: U.S. drivers found the appearance polarizing, and Europe has an infrastructure supporting fuel-stingy diesels. Honda wound up selling only 18,000 before halting production in September of 2006. A replacement is being developed.

Q: I live in Britain and like the Honda Insight. How much do they cost used, and where could I find one?

A: try E bay

Q: so is there a new Honda insight?
I google honda insight and they say that they stoped making them in 2006 i want to buy a newer one but i see some people talking about a 2007 and 2008 whats the real story anybody ............o and how is the insight is it worth it

A: THe last year for the Insight was the 2006 model that was sold into calendar year 2007. They stopped producing them in 2006. the insight is good for what it is; a commuter car. it has very little interior space beyond the two seats. the space under the hatch can hold a case of soda at best. the manual trans vehcile (initially they were sold with manual trans only) is the fuel mileage king. Honda only kept the Insight around as long as it could claim that title. the volumes were very low. It has 'love it or hate it' styling. Current models of the Civic Hybrid get the same fuel economy as the automatic trans Insight. Plus, the way fuel economy estimates are calculated has changed so the Insight would not get rated at the big numbers using today's calculations. they did not hold their value well up until recently when their status as a hybrid enhanced their previously low resale values. they had a very low production number since 2003 when the Civic Hybrid came out. chances are that their aren't many available. the downside is that they are low production vehicles with no cross-over parts so any repairs will be expensive. the positives are the fuel economy and a unique ride. hope that helps

Q: VW Jetta TDI or Honda Insight?
I am not bashing on ricers but that Insight POS could possibly end up in my driveway by my mother's request. I am pushing the Diesel line from the always reliable Volkswagen and the attractive looking BMW 335d. But, my mom is a rice burner, and damn proud of it. I need some technical reasons to make the Honda as unappealing as possible. Thanks guys.

A: There is actually a competition between a Jetta TDI and some hybrids check out www.greenp2p.com. The gas mileage between the 2 is going to be fairly similar however I would venture to say the TDI would get better gas mileage if you plan on doing a lot of around town/city driving on the highway there shouldn't be a difference large enough to sway your opinion either way. Volkswagen diesels have become very popular in the states and I'm sure the BMW's will do very well also. Also Honda has announced that it will release a diesel in the states sometime soon as well. The thing you must keep in mind when thinking about driving a diesel is that not every gas station has diesel, so it has to become almost second nature to start thinking about fueling up when you reach 1/4 tank unlike a gas engine which you can run down to the last drop and roll in to the first gas station you see. There is not a whole lot of persuasion available. The bad thing about hybrids is the battery pack is going to go bad, it's inevitable. Also not any shop is able to work on hybrids, it requires special tools and special training so any service will have to be done at the dealership which is $$$. As for a diesel many independent shops will be able to perform maintenence which can save money as well. Also it has been shown that Hybrids do not hold their value so when it comes time to try and sell you will take a huge hit diesels on the otherhand tend to have a higher resale value than the equivalent gasoline version. My vote would be for a diesel over a hybrid anyday but some people would rather have a gasoline engine.

Q: When was the Honda Insight fist sold in America?

A: 1999 as a 2000 model

Q: How can I obtain higher MPGs by diverting radiator heat in my Honda Insight?
Already get 60+ MPG in central Florida, but on colder days it declines to approx. 51-55 MPGs.

A: You can't. That's characteristic of any gasoline engine - mileage will decrease when the air is cooler. You just notice it more because the number is a greater percentage of the total in your hybrid.

Q: Question about Honda Insight?
Why did they discontuine the Honda Insight? And also how much does the Insight cost/ed?

A: They no longer send the insight to the usa because the car is a two seater. You can not buy a new 2006 any more u can only buy used. I bought my 2002 auto insight in 2003 it was brand new. Now I have 30000 mile on it. It only cost 18000 out the door and than with the rebate 2000 off my taxes. The dealer replace the battery pack last year other wise have had no problems with the car. I love that I get 55 mpg over all. Plus a lot of fun to drive for such a little car it has a lot of power.

Q: 2010 Honda Insight Sell in Orange County, California?
When and Where can I get the new Honda Insight? I heard it will be out on Earth Day 4/22/09. But is that for world wide? Can I get it if I live in Orange County, California? I'm trying to buy Yaris but if that car will come out then I'll wait a few more months.

A: You will need to go to the dealer now and put a deposit. We still have to available to be ordered on our first shipment. Depending on what trim(LX, EX or EX Navi) you are getting. If you put a deposit the greater chance you get to pick your color and trim. I was told we are only getting 5 for our first move. If you need the colors let me know.

Q: Honda Insight Gets 60 MPG. Does Every Dem Drive a Honda Insight Instead of Destroying the Planet?
How many polar bears and kids will die because millions of Dems are NOT driving a Haonda Insight, which gets 60 MPG? http://www.automedia.com/NewCarBuyersGuide/photos/2006/Honda/Insight/Hatchback/2006_Honda_Insight_ext_1.jpg

A: We should all have passive nuclear/electric cars. Nuclear thermoelectric generators can be used to produce electricity without the risk of radioactivity. Your tires will rot off of your nuclear/thermoelectric powered car before the "battery" dies. Of course people can use the cars to make dirty bombs, but, it would eliminate green house gases from automobiles!

Q: Who can tell me firsthand about the 2006 Honda Insight Hybrid 3-Door?
My fiancé and I are very much interested in purchasing an Insight, but were disappointed to find out that no dealerships have any in stock: it's an order only car. We know better than to buy a car without test-driving it first, or at least checking it out in person. Our main concern is blind spots. Since no dealerships even have an Insight on the showroom floor to check out, and no car rental business in the area stocks them, than our best bet at this point would be to browse local parking lots and if we find one, wait patiently for the owner to return and ask him/her real nicely if we can sit inside. This method of course, is impractical. Does anyone know of anywhere my fiancé and I could go to examine an Insight in person, or does anyone live in the East Bay area of California near Walnut Creek, Concord and/or Pleasant Hill that owns an Insight and would be nice enough to let us check it out?

A: I have a 2001 5 speed with 56000 miles I bought used. Am getting 75mpg driving 60mph very carefully. The car "teaches" you how to save gas. At 70-75 mph I get 60 mpg. I am comfortable in it at 6 feet 280 pounds unlike other Japanese cars. Stereo speakers no good. Quiet engine and wind noise. Lots of road noise. Steers and feels like a Honda except it wanders more and rides like a truck. Has more power (when revved) than my 1982 1.5L Corolla or any VW Beetle. Which means adequate. Not a lot of cargo room but enough for me. A good 2 seat commuter car. I love mine. Hard to find. Usually have to order with a 3 month wait. Check e-bay or other online car places. E-mail me if you want to check the car out. I am in Sunnyvale and Minden, NV. See www.insightcentral.net

Q: Who in the world wants to buy the Honda Insight?

A: HIPPIES DO! In reality, Honda realized that no one wanted the Insight and discontinued production as of 2007.

Q: Is the Honda Insight the Most Fuel Efficietnt Car on the Market? If so...?
how much does it cost? If not, what car is the most fuel efficient and how much does THAT cost? Efficient*

A: It WAS around 20,000 dollars before it was discontinued. Now, they run, used, as little as about 6500 bucks. But that would be for an older one, and the batteries would be getting a little long in the tooth. The Insight can keep running efficiently with worn-out batteries, though. It was the most fuel-efficient vehicle in North America. The Volkswagen Lupo Diesel is more efficient on paper, but if you're willing to drive like an asshole, the Insight could probably do better.

Q: Honda Insight Hybrid?
Dose anyone knows anything about Honda Insight Hybrid? Like the MPG, reliability, how dose the power thing work...do you have to plug it in an outlet to recharge? How long have they been in the market?

A: find it at www.autoweb.com

Q: Why did Honda and Chevrolet stop building the Insight and Metro respectively?
Simple research shows that these two cars had the best MPG of any cars sold in the U.S., in thier respective Hybrid, Conventional catagories.

A: Hi, get comfy... essentially, the Geo Metro/Suzuki Swift would never have the mileage today that it had back when they were new. What I mean is if GM/Suzuki had to include all the safety, insulating, electronic, etc. features that the government and the average consumer legislate/expect/demand/pay for, the Geo Metro would weigh hundreds of pounds more than it did. Modern advanced airbags alone add a hundred pounds or more to a vehicle in bags, wiring, computer modules, sensors, bracing, etc. How many airbags did the Geo Metro have? I guarantee it did not have advanced front, side seat and side curtain bags. Add in ABS, stereo systems, more than two seats (Insight), actual steel body panels (not aluminum bodies like the Insight), current crash resistant bumpers and subframes, and all the other myriad pieces that a current car must have, and that is why there is no Insight or Metro that gets 50+ mpg. People pay for what they want and, as other people have pointed out, the Metro and Insight were niche vehicles, just (shudder along with me) like the H2 is. And for what it means, I miss the manual tranny Insight, too.
